tba architecture + planning (tba) launched in 2020. Owner and Director of Design, Timothy G. Boyland, AIA, is a licensed architect

with over forty (40) years experience; after the success of his own firm in 1995, he collaborated for twelve years as partner

of v+b architecture/urban planning, llp.

He has a broad base of expertise including architectural design, commercial and residential development, conditions

assessment, building & structural systems, historic preservation, disaster preparedness and recovery, sustainability, accessibility,

urban design, land use planning, community revitalization, and zoning and code consultation.

Mr. Boyland and his firms have been engaged to develop master plans, assess the viability and development potential of

contemporary and historic sites, and design individual projects in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and beyond. Additionally, he

has secured municipal approvals for more than 1.5 million square feet of market rate and affordable housing in New York City.

tba is located in St George, Staten Island where local public and community engagement has remained a cornerstone of his work.

As part of his vast portfolio, Tim Boyland has prepared designs for private and public clients and his projects have often garnered

the support and advocacy of civic and preservation organizations. His architectural portfolio embraces the traditional to the

contemporary, and his work has been published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Architect Magazine,

The Architects’ Newspaper, Crain’s, Urban Omnibus, and others. His work has been recognized with awards from relevant

organizations such as the American Institute of Architects, and The American Planning Association.

A fifth-generation resident of New York City, he maintains strong ties to the community. Following Super Storm Sandy he

participated in disaster response and recovery and served as a member of the Governor's NY Rising Community

Reconstruction and Implementation Committee for Staten Island. His commitment to disaster preparedness and a resilient future

for NYC inspired Tim and his collaborators to develop a residential prototype for the city’s Staten Island rebuilding program,
Richmond Cottages, which was championed by local officials. His boots-on-the-ground experiences urged him to become

certified by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency services to train design professionals and code officials to perform

post-disaster building safety assessment. He has trained hundreds of designers and building professionals as part of an ongoing

state-wide effort to build a stronger response and recovery team. He brings this insight and zeal to every project he works on.

Tim Boyland is the recipient of the 2022 AIA National Honor Award for Collaborative Achievement, in recognition for his work with the

AIA's Unified (NYC/NYS) Covid-19 Task Force. He is a past President of AIA New York State and currently serves as State

Disaster Assistance Coordinator. Moreover, he is co-author of the State organization's first Disaster Assistance Handbook (2022).

In 2022, tba architecture + planning will continue to focus on projects that have a positive impact on the built environment and

serve to reinforce neighborhood identity and sense of place.
